Description
The Saint Augustine Dolphin Watch & Historical Harbor Tour takes you aboard a smooth-riding modern ocean catamaran to explore the natural wonders and historic sites found along the Tolomato and Matanzas River shorelines. Observe and photograph the playful and friendly bottlenose dolphins that make the waters around St. Augustine their home. Take in views of historic waterfront locations, the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, and other St. Augustine landmarks. This great tour lets you enjoy dolphin watching activities that are always conducted ethically and responsibly while also taking a scenic boat ride that offers an informative and entertaining look at America’s oldest city as viewed from the water.
Experienced guides provide an amazing and educational experience that lets you learn many interesting and fun facts about St. Augustine’s resident pod of bottlenose dolphins. The captain is an expert when it comes to locating the wild dolphins as they go about their daily activities in the natural open-water environment, and there will be plenty of photo opportunities as the dolphins are accustomed to human visitors and often swim and leap fearlessly quite near the boat.
You can enjoy watching the dolphins in complete confidence that they are not being bothered or harmed in any way because all tours are conducted under the guidelines of the Dolphin SMART program put together by the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s National Marine Sanctuary Program along with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society and the Dolphin Ecology Project.
While locating and watching the dolphins, you will also be cruising along the riverfront and harbor areas that have played such an important role in the history of a city that was first founded in 1565 by the Spanish admiral and explorer Pedro Menéndez de Avilés. St. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied European-established settlement in the continental United States, and the offshore views of landmarks like the Castillo de San Marcos and the St. Augustine Historic Bayfront are amazing.
