See WWII battle scars and visit the German Resistance Memorial, site of the 20 July 1944 plot against Hitler. Continue to Hackescher Markt and the former Jewish quarter, passing the New Synagogue and Hackesche Höfe. Walk the 'Street of Tolerance', where a Catholic hospital, a Protestant church, and an old Jewish cemetery stand near a former Jewish retirement home turned by the Gestapo into a transit camp.
