Overview

The Duomo Square offers a breathtaking view, especially at sunset, when the sun’s rays illuminate the polychrome marble of the buildings in the city’s religious complex: the Baptistery, the Cathedral, and Giotto’s Bell Tower.

With our certified guide, you’ll have the chance to admire the magnificent Byzantine mosaics on the vault inside the Baptistery, while outside you can see Lorenzo Ghiberti’s masterpiece, the east door of the Baptistery, commonly called the “Gate of Paradise.”

The next step of your journey will reveal the majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Duomo.

The final stop of the tour will be the Museum of the Opera del Duomo, where you can admire priceless works of artistic heritage.

If you choose the corresponding option, you’ll have the chance to climb Giotto’s Bell Tower.

Duomo - Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore

The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, located in Florence, is one of the most famous masterpieces of Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Its construction began in 1296, designed by Arnolfo di Cambio, and was completed in 1436 with the majestic dome by Filippo Brunelleschi, a remarkable engineering innovation.Characterized by a façade of white, green, and pink marble, the cathedral is renowned for its impressive size and intricate decorative details. The Campanile of Giotto, next to the church, and the Baptistery of St. John, with the famous Gates of Paradise by Lorenzo Ghiberti, complete the magnificent complex. The interior, relatively sober compared to the exterior, houses artworks by artists such as Paolo Uccello and Donatello. The dome, with its famous frescoes of the Last Judgment by Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari, dominates Florence's skyline and remains one of the most admired architectural wonders in the world.
