Castelo de São Jorge

The city's calling card, built in the second century BC. Over its long history, the building has been repeatedly destroyed and reconstructed. However, it still has a massive and impressive appearance, strict symmetry of architectural forms. It is not easy to visit such interesting places in Lisbon - the castle rises on the top of the mountain.

Mosteiro dos Jeronimos

When listing the sights of Lisbon, many tour guides give this temple the first place. Since it is considered the most popular tourist attraction in the whole country and is included in the list of "Seven Wonders of Portugal". Every year it is visited by about 800-900 thousand guests. In the chapel, on the site of which the monastery was erected, Vasco da Gama prayed before his departure to India (now inside the building is a sarcophagus with his remains). Historians say that 1496 is the year of creation of Jeronimos. But construction work from that year continued for two hundred years. Jeronimos is both a monastery for parishioners and a memorial, inside which are the ashes of representatives of the royal families of the state. In addition to the temple itself, it is interesting to examine its courtyard with flowering flowerbeds, located in a clear geometric order. Palácio Nacional da Ajuda

Due to an earthquake that shook the city in the mid-18th century, the royal family's castle was almost completely wiped off the face of the earth. Therefore, in 1796, the construction of a new palace for the Portuguese monarchs began on the Ajuda hills. The light façade of the three-story building was decorated with sculptures and pilasters, the architectural style of the building is neoclassicism. The preserved palace interiors deserve special attention. In the spacious rooms you can see ancient tapestries, canvases by the best artists of the world, ceiling frescoes, royal furniture and huge mirrors. Even the best hotels in Lisbon cannot boast such a magnificent setting.

The unique menagerie stands out from other zoos because it has no cages or enclosures. For comfortable observation of the animals and organization of picnics, there are tables and benches on the area of the complex. If you come to Lisbon with children, you must visit this wonderful zoo first of all.

National Coach Museum

Every year, this complex is visited by over 200 thousand guests. The exhibits of the center are all kinds of carriages, racing carriages, stagecoaches, landaus and strollers of different eras. The museum was opened by order of D. Amelia (the last ruler of the state) in May 1905 in a historical building of the 18th century.
